At CancerSurvivorLink.org we recognize that privacy is important. This Privacy Policy applies only to the CancerSurvvivorLink.org website offered by Emory University Department of Pediatrics and affiliated organizations, with respect to the privacy of our online visitors. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please feel free to contact us through our website privacy@cancersurvivorlink.org. 

CancerSurvivorLink.org does not collect personally identifiable information without permission. Our website links to numerous other websites, however, and CancerSurvivorLink.org cannot control and is not responsible for the content or privacy policies of those websites.

Information we collect and how we use it

This site collects personal information when you register for the site. When you register, we will need personal information such as name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address so that we can provide services to you through the website, like saving links to your ‘favorite’ items on the site. We also offer a number of services that do not require you to register for an account or provide any personal information to us.

When you send email or other communications to CancerSurvivorLink.org, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.

We use cookies to authenticate registered users and provide services based on their profile. Cookies are small text files that do not damage a visitor's system or files. Most browsers will allow a user to accept or deny cookies. If a visitor rejects our cookies they may still use our site.

We may use your information for auditing, research and analysis in order to maintain, protect and improve our services, prevent fraud and misconduct, and ensure the technical functioning of our services. This will include periodically performing statistical analyses of aggregate user behavior and characteristics.  We will use these analyses to measure interest in and use of various areas on our website and to improve on our website's ability to serve you better.

Information sharing

When you sign up for a particular service that requires registration, we ask you to provide personal information. CancerSurvivorLink.org and its affiliated organizations will not share personal information with outside organizations or individuals except in the following limited circumstances:

1.     We have your consent. If you consent to participate in research related to Cancer Survivorship, we may provide personal information to researchers for research purposes only. We require that these parties have a research protocol approved by their organization’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent organization responsible for ensuring that the privacy and other rights of research participants are protected. We also require that they agree to process such information based on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures. Researchers will be required to provide an approved IRB research protocol prior to receiving access to any data and this research protocol will be required to include, as appropriate, an informed consent and HIPAA authorization, or appropriate IRB waivers of these documents.  At any time, you may decide to stop allowing your personal information used for research. You may change your current settings for participating in research by going to My Account and editing your profile.  

2.     We have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request, (b) enforce applicable Terms of Service , including investigation of potential violations thereof, (c) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues , or (d) protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of CancerSurvivorLink.org its users or the public as required or permitted by law.   

3.     Non-personal (de-identified) or aggregated information may be used for research purposes . For example, the number of users who viewed a particular page or how many users registered for the website. Such information does not identify you individually.

Information Security

Our website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. Our servers are located in a locked, secure environment to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we store personal data. Additionally, our servers use firewalls to prevent unauthorized access to the servers from the outside. Passwords and other security information in your profile is encrypted to provide additional protection to your account.

Data integrity

CancerSurvivorLink.org processes personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We review our data collection, storage and processing practices to ensure that we only collect, store and process the personal information needed to provide or improve our services. We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we process is accurate, complete, and current, but we depend on our users to update or correct their personal information whenever necessary.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. Unless required by law, we will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your explicit consent, and we expect most such changes will be minor. Regardless, we will post any Privacy Policy changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice (including, for certain services, email notification of Privacy Policy changes).

SurvivorLink™ has been designed to increase awareness and knowledge about the life-long healthcare needs of pediatric cancer survivors, and increase communication about the specific healthcare needs of individual survivors between survivor and family, cancer survivor team, primary care provider, and healthcare subspecialists.
